Red River Ranch

The Red River Ranch is located southeast of Springer, NM.

Approximately 75-80% of the ranch has an open rolling terrain. The east boundary of the ranch is a deep canyon rim along the edge of the Canadian River. 20-25% of the ranch becomes rocky canyon drainage areas that flow to the Canadian Canyon. The canyon areas have a canopy of juniper, pinon and ponderosa pine, offering good winter protection and excellent wildlife habitat.

Water

The ranch is watered by windmills, electric solar wells, pipelines, dirt tanks, seasonal natural lakes, live creeks and springs.

Access

Access to the ranch is provided by graded county road.

Hunting/Recreation

This is an excellent area for wildlife. Elk, mule deer, turkey, bear and lion are found in the rougher protected canyon areas. Antelope are common in the open rolling country.

Improvements

The ranch has an exceptional set of shipping pens, along with a large metal barn and hay shed. Other improvements include a small ranch house.

Remarks

This is a good working cattle ranch with the added benefit of hunting. Of interest, the ranch is regionally known as the "Red River Ranch". When this area of New Mexico was first being settled, the early pioneers thought the Canadian River was the Red River. The first ownership named this ranch the "Red River Ranch", and even though the river was mis-named, the name has stuck, and area ranchers still refer to this property as the Red River Ranch.
