Location/Access:
The Holt Mountain Ranch and the adjoining USFS Grazing allotment is located in Western New Mexico near the small community of Glenwood. The Holt Mountain Ranch is positioned on the western slopes of the Gila Mountains and along the San Francisco River bottom. The scenery in this area is amazing. The extreme east boundary of the allotment is near the top of some of the highest elevations in the Gila Range extending westward to the rolling foothills separating the Magdalena and San Mateo Mountain Ranges. The main access road is paved highway US #180.

The Holt Mountain Ranch and USFS Grazing Allotment is nicely blocked for operational purposes. The approximate acreage of the allotment is 15,796 total acres including the 74.4 deeded acre (15.7 Irrigated acres) parcel comprising the base property serving the allotment. The allotment is managed by the Glenwood Ranger District of the Gila National Forest. The grazing permit is currently set by the District at 150 AU’s year long.

The headquarters portion of the ranch, which is located on the 74.4 deeded acres, is separated into six irrigated pastures with new fencing throughout. Pasture rotation is easy and efficient. The pastures are planted in clover, fescue and orchard grass. Water delivery for irrigating the pastures is efficient via concrete ditch and new gated valves for flood irrigation.

The Holt Gulch Allotment is fenced into 5 main pastures and 2 traps. The allotment is watered via 2 solar wells, 6 springs, over 18 miles of on top of the ground pipeline, and 22 drinkers. Interior and exterior fencing is comprised generally of four and five strand barbed wire. Wire gates or cattle guards and two track roads provide access to all major pastures on the ranch.
