You may have heard by now that the sale of one of the largest ranches in the United States has now been announced. After being marketed nationally and internationally for several months, we are proud to announce that Stan Kroenke has purchased the famous ranch. With over 500,000 acres of land, thousands of head of cattle, hundreds of horses, numerous oil wells, large lakes and scenic rivers, this may well be the sale of the century.
This marks the end of one era and the beginning of a new one. A new chapter in the famed ranch’s history is now being written.
The Waggoner Ranch is nearly as old as the state of Texas. Texas became the 28th state on December 29, 1845, and when this ranch was first established in 1849, Abe Lincoln was in Congress, California was petitioning to join the U.S. as a free state, and neighboring Oklahoma was Indian Territory.
Stretching across six North Texas counties, the ranch is reported to be the largest contiguous ranching operation of its kind under one fence in Texas, and one of the largest in the United States. This is a diverse operation consisting of cattle, horses, farming, oil, recreational lakes and wildlife. It may be hard to truly comprehend the sheer vastness of the Waggoner Ranch. In total, the ranch spans nearly 800 square miles. This sprawling property is approximately three-fourths the size of Rhode Island. Need a size comparison?
According to Bloomberg News, The asking price was approximately four times greater than the biggest publicly known sum fetched by a U.S. ranch, $175 million for a Colorado spread in 2007.
